The project partners want the learning material to be used, and also improved. The improvements can be of several kinds:
- General improvement of the material
- Modify (e.g. narrowing or broaden) the scope of the material
- Recontextualization, e.g. adopting the material to a specific audience/purpose
For licensing, we’ve opted for a Creative Commons (CC) open license. Further details on licensing options are available at Creative Commons. We have chosen to adopt the CC BY-NC license for the following reasons:
- The “BY” component encourages good practice by acknowledging the original creators when the material is cited or reused.
- The “NC” aspect allows for the adaptation of the material for internal educational purposes within any organization, regardless of its commercial nature. This type of use is not deemed commercial by DigiLab/BE. However, if the adaptations are intended to generate economic profit, we believe it is fair that the creators receive a share of this profit. The intent behind employing the “NC” option is not to inhibit such uses, but to ensure that the creators receive a fair portion of any derived profit.
